Robert Louis Bryant Sr., 71, died March 26, 2016.
Robert "Bob" Bryant was a lifelong resident of Bridgewater NJ. He attended Morris College in South Carolina where he met Tillie, his loving wife of 52 years. Bob worked for Ortho, a division of Chevron Chemicals in Perth Amboy for 25 years. He then pursued his lifelong dream and opened Bobby B's Best in BBQ in Somerville, NJ. Bobby B's was a favorite restaurant for many, where you could eat great BBQ and enjoy local Blues and Jazz artists.
Bob was an active community leader in many church and civic organizations including: The First Baptist Church in Somerville serving as Senior Deacon, The Somerville Fire Department Lincoln Hose Co. #4 where he was Lieutenant of the Fire Police, AB Cooper Sr. Lodge #69 Free & Accepted Masons serving two terms as Worshipful Master, member of the Order of the Eastern Stars Ketura Chapter #63, past President of the Somerville Manor Civic Association, and a past member of the Somerville Jaycees.
Bob was also active in local baseball and softball leagues for many years as a player and umpire. Bob loved to travel the world with his wife visiting 6 continents and countless countries over the years. He was a dedicated fan of the Giants, Mets, and Penn State Football. Bob loved to be surrounded by his family and friends, and often hosted parties including his annual Labor Day Fish Fry. He was an inspiration and role model to many and will be sadly missed by all.
One of the truly "good guys" I went to high school with and actually nearly a Neighbor. He grew up in "Hobbstown" which was just about half a mile from the house I grew up in.
A book was written about Hobbstown and when I heard about it, I bought a copy. It's well-written and a great history lesson!
